I’m glad to see you all. I guess many of you have participated in debates, right? Um, because it's being held in schools, universities and learning centers. Even. Other than that, we have been debating with our friends, relatives and anybody else and considering some of my bed. And we all know that debate is beneficial considering some of my bad memories. I was thinking debate is a beneficial is a debatable topic by itself, and I want to debate this topic and I want to divide it. You all will be on the agree side. You’ll say that debate’s beneficial and I’ll be on the disagree side. Like what are the benefits of debate? What standing up for your opinion and. Confidence. Critical thinking. Any benefits? You all have participated in debate. Learning how. Art of arguing, right? Yes. Considering your majority, I will go through the benefits that are considered by majority. And the first one is confidence. Uh, the courage to speak in public. Uh, it's a skill that many people lack. And in debate where you need to debate in front of others, you need to have a courage. So it improves your courage. And the next one is, um, fluent speaking and persuasiveness. Uh, considering one of the major factors of winning in a debate competition is persuading others that your opinion is right. Persuasiveness is a crucial skill, and the next one is teamwork. A majority of debates are being held in teams, so you need to be able to work in a team. And the next two I want to pinpoint them. The first one which I liked, which I liked, is, uh, research and learning. To be able to debate, you need to know different subjects and different fields. So, uh, it goes from science, like physics, chemistry to social sciences, history and politics. So you need to know many different fields and why I like it. It is considering many people, many students and me who studies mainly their own subjects, to be able to enter university to pursue their undergraduate degree and move on to the career. And if we are learning only our subjects, it will be very harder and tougher to see the problems from different angles because we don't know a lot of things other than that. So learning is key and the next one is analytical thinking. One thing you need to do in a debate, in a debate term is when the opponent says something, some facts, statistics or their ideas. This statistic might be false or the idea might be complete. You need to catch them in that moment. So analysis is important. It's in debate terms other than debate in our daily life, Especially nowadays with the help of social media, books and articles, we have many junk information that that are bombarding us, that are bombarding our brain. So if you are not, if you are not able to analyze them and understand which one is true and which one is not true, we will be just moving with the crowd to the same direction that those content makers wants. Okay, these are the main benefits and let's move to my side, which is disagree on the disagree side. If you look many debates, uh, yes, it improves confidence. It enhances. But the thing is it enhances the confidence of already confident ones. Because when we are debating, we choose the ones who are capable of speak, uh, the ones who are introverted or has less social skills are not debating at all because they feel bad. And the next one is overemphasis on winning. Uh, because of this, there are many fights, noisy arguments, noisy disagreements arose, and it continues even after the debate. Relationships may be destroyed and that's why. And it creates also something called win or lose mentality. You do everything to win it, losing the point of doing some action, for example, losing the point of learning. We prepare for exams, losing the point of doing something we do for the sake of the results or outcomes. And the next one is, uh, misrepresentation. Uh, since one of the factors of winning is persuading, some people use false information. So understanding when there, uh, so it's going to, uh, make people lie. And the final negative of debate is emotional intensity and pressure that less that that get with less ability to speak. So because of this. For example, some, let's say introverted guys, when they speak, they others will find their idea as a stupidity and laugh at them and consider them not something considered by majority. So this was the illustration of debate. I tried my best and let's move to the questions that bothered me. The first one is what is the core idea of debating? And the next one why we should debate. And third one is how should it look like? Starting with first, the debate is a discussion where two opposing sides defend their beliefs. Hardly. And at the end this is important. They find the mutual understanding between each other. They find a common ground in between. Or we can call it compromise. And the next one is why should we do it? It goes to this benefits compromising, finding mutual interest. Compromise. Compromising is important in our daily life solutions and big solutions that changes the course of our life and our relationships too. So, uh, how debate should look like if you paid attention? I didn't finish my debate there. I just said agree and disagree side, which are the advantages and disadvantages of debate. But I didn't finish. How should debate look? And we need to find a compromise here. And the compromise is if we look at the disadvantages of debate, they are connected with competition. So I was thinking, if we can lower this intensity of competition and make it respectful and understanding each other, it will be very much, much desired debate that we want. So at the end, what's my message? Let's find solutions that are neither black nor white, but grey ones that will help everybody to be their lives better. Thank you.
